SALISBURY City legend Darrell Clarke is bringing his newly-promoted Bristol Rovers to the Ray Mac for a pre-season friendly.

The former boss is bringing Rovers, who won promotion to Sky Bet League One, to his old stomping ground on Saturday, July 9 (1pm).

The Pirates snapped up the last automatic promotion spot in League Two following Lee Brown's stoppage time winner on the final day of the campaign.

That completed back-to-back promotions for the 38-year-old who is bringing his side to Salisbury for the second year running.

Former Whites Stuart Sinclair, James Clarke and Will Puddy, all at Rovers, could also feature in the prestigious friendly.

Last year's contest saw Rovers run out 4-1 winners in front of 1,068 people.

"It's another great game for us," said Whites manager Steve Claridge.

"Darrell has done us proud again and we're really grateful."

In Clarke's three-year spell as Salisbury City manager, he guided the Whites from Southern Premier to the elite level of non-league.

The newly-formed club will be one level below Southern Premier next season, in Southern League Division One South and West.

The pre-season friendly is Salisbury's second of the season with Pompey already confirmed for Tuesday, July 19 (7.45pm).
