SALISBURY FC were brushed aside by Taunton Town 3-1 in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

Whites, who are still adjusting to life at step four following promotion from the Sydenhams Wessex League, came up short at the Viridor Stadium like they did at Winchester City midweek in the cathedral derby.

Ex-Salisbury City striker Matt Wright put the Peacocks in front after 31 minutes when he headed a long ball from keeper Lloyd Irish over Southampton loanee Will Britt.

Salisbury could have levelled almost immediately when Kieran Parselle’s shot from 20 yards took a wicked deflection and dipped just over Lloyd Irish’s crossbar.

Then, midfielder Ollie Chamberlain fired a shot just over as the home side continued to press.

But it was the visitors who equalised 11 minutes into the second half when Tommy Wright nodded home a Lewis Benson corner.

Wright, who claimed his third goal in as many matches since signing on a season's long loan from National Premier outfit Sutton United, almost added a second after a mazy run from inside his own half but was stopped by Irish.

That missed proved decisive as Wright set up former Salisbury fans' favourite Adam Kelly who stroked the ball past Britt.

And, as Steve Claridge's men chased an equaliser, Taunton added a third courtesy of substitute Craig Veal in the sixth minute of stoppage time after Wright saw his effort disallowed for handball.

Salisbury, who suffered a second defeat in four days, return to league action tomorrow night with the visit of winless Bishops Cleeve (7.45pm).
