EDDIE Perrett grabbed a double as Salisbury got revenge on Hereford with a 4-3 victory in an explosive FA Trophy preliminary round showdown.

Top scorer Tommy Wright put Whites ahead before two quickfire goals from Mike Symons and John Mills gave Bulls an interval lead.

A refreshed hosts levelled minutes after the restart through Perrett and then Justin Bennett completed the comeback.

Perrett then stretched Whites' lead after finishing with aplomb.

Mills converted a second penalty late on to set-up a grandstand finish but Whites held on. Their reward is a first round tie at home to higher league Chippenham Town on Saturday, October 29.

In a re-run of the epic FA Vase semi-final seven months ago, Whites were eager to avenge that defeat, and things got off to a perfect start when they burst into a two-minute lead. Lewis Benson’s corner was flicked on by fit-again Calum Brockway and Wright was there to nod home from two yards.

Apart from a couple of free kicks, Hereford, who lead the way at the top of Southern League Division One South and West, offered very little in the opening proceedings.

But that didn’t stop them from turning the tie on its head with two goals in the space of six minutes.

The first arrived on the half hour mark, tricky Pablo Haysham skipped into the area and teed up Symons who guided his shot past Alex Bass.

Then, Mills darted into the box and was upended by Brockway. The top-scorer stepped up and rifled the penalty into the corner.

Haysham could have put the visitors out of sight with a low strike that fizzed wide.

However, Whites, who stuck ten past Dorchester midweek, levelled four minutes into the second period as Kane O’Keefe threaded through Perrett, who provided a fine finish from an acute angle.

And as the atmosphere cranked up, Bennett made it 3-2 on 68 minutes with an instinctive finish.

The hosts' pressure continued and Perrett stretched their lead with minutes remaining after sending a deftly chip over the committed Martin Horsell, a former White.

Mills converted a second penalty in injury time as Brockway was the culprit again.

But time ran out for Hereford to muster a leveller in the see-saw tie as they crashed to a second successive defeat for the first time this season.
