SALISBURY's inaugural boxing event was a roaring success.

After a fantastic Friday night at the Ray Mac for the return of the Journal Sports Awards, 24 hours later the club hosted an action-packed night of boxing.

Boxing at the Ray Mac saw Whites work together with the 5 Rifles and local boxing clubs to put on a great night of amateur boxing.

Former WBC middleweight champion Glen Catley was guest of honour and took to the ring during the interval to entertain the crowds with stories of his career, delivered with wit.

The raffle at the event raised almost £500 for Wiltshire girl Livy Bridewell, whose family are currently fundraising for her treatment.

Amanda Newbery, CEO at Salisbury FC and co-owner of The Chapel Nightclub, who was instrumental in setting up of Salisbury Journal Sports Awards and Boxing at the Ray Mac, spoke of her delight at the way things panned out.

She said: "It was great to have such a successful first event, it will be the start of many as we look to host regular boxing events.

"The atmosphere was great and the feedback we have received so far has been fantastic.

"I’d like to thank everyone who helped bring this series of events, we’ll be announcing further exciting events in the near future."
