DEVASTATED Calum Brockway admits he was talked out of retiring by boss Steve Claridge after dislocating his shoulder again.

The 23-year-old central defender sustained the injury in Saturday's 2-1 league defeat at home to Tiverton Town.

Midway through the second half Brockway jumped for the ball and landed awkwardly on his right shoulder.

He was stretchered off and taken to A&E at Salisbury District Hospital where he waited two hours before being seen to.

The injury comes just weeks into his return following a six-month lay-off dating back to the first leg of the FA Vase semi-final at Hereford.

"I managed to get through five or six games and lots of training with no issues so thought it was good as new but obviously a weakness is still there."

"I was absolutely gutted Saturday evening, felt really down so avoided my phone for the night.

"I'm in a lot of pain still but unsure of the extent of damage, will be seeing the consultant shortly who will give me the full story."

Brockway, who joined Whites in the summer of 2015 from Folland Sports, expects to be sidelined for the rest of the season.

In the meantime, Southampton-based Brockway is planning an operation which he hopes to have over the festive period.

However, it will prevent him from driving for four weeks, adding strain on his job as an independent financial advisor at Radcliffe and Co.

He added: "I always said if it happened again I'd consider my future. My job takes up a lot of my time and this will only affect it even more with most likely having another operation.

"I spoke with the gaffer, though, who said I'm far too young to consider hanging my boots up yet so I fully intend on coming back. I will know more in a few weeks but this season is looking unlikely."

Brockway joins Callum Hart, Claudio Herbert and Danny Young on the long-term casualty list.

However, he says he will continue "cheering the boys on" who look to bounce back on Saturday with the visit of Taunton Town, fresh from their FA Cup first round adventure, followed by Tuesday's Wiltshire Senior Cup derby with rivals Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
