FOOTBALLER Steve Walker says he’s lucky to be alive after being involved in a “horrendous” car crash on Saturday night.

The Salisbury defender was travelling home following his side’s 2-1 home defeat to Tiverton Town when his car flipped five times on the B3390 at Affpuddle, east of Dorchester.

A passerby found the smashed Ford Focus C-Max shortly before 7.30pm and called for an ambulance. On arrival, paramedics required police assistance. Police shut the road for two hours as recovery and investigations took place.

Walker was taken to hospital and escaped with a bruised thigh and a cut to his head.

“I keep looking at the photos and thinking how the hell I survived such a horrendous crash and escaped scot-free,” the 26-year-old told JournalSport.

“Police said I’m lucky to be alive as they have never been to an accident like mine and someone has walked away with minor injuries!

“Someone must have been looking down on me that night. I’m truly grateful for still being here. I’m thankful for waking up to my lovely wife and daughter in the morning.”

The ambulance spokesman said: “We were called at 7.28pm by a passer-by who came across the incident. “It was a single vehicle crash on the B3390 just by the A35. A single male casualty with head injuries was taken by ambulance to DCH.”

Walker hopes to be back in action either on Saturday when Salisbury entertain Taunton Town or for the Wiltshire derby with Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Tuesday night.

Anyone with information about the accident should call 101 quoting 12:324.
