FREE-SCORING Tommy Wright struck again as Salisbury marched into the play-off places after a convincing 3-0 victory at lowly Paulton Rovers.

Wright notched his second brace in four days in the first half to send Whites on their way to fifth place in the league.

His first arrived on 20 minutes when he was initially denied by Rovers keeper Keiron Hodges, who saved at the feet of Wright, but he tucked away the rebound.

Paulton then had a period of sustained pressure with Will Hailston and Ryan Radford shooting wide.

At the other end, Lewis Benson outpaced his marker down the right and crossed low for Wright to snatch his second four minutes before the break - his 21st of the campaign which makes him second joint top scorer in the league.

And the outcome was settled on 53 minutes when Tom Whelan's piledriver bounced off the underside of the bar and went over the line. That goal was Salisbury's 300th since reforming in 2015.

Hodges ensured Paulton didn't concede any further goals as he pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Wright getting his hat-trick and Justin Bennett, fresh from the bench, searching for his 30th goal in all competitions.

The game was watched by 500 fans as admission was free.

A collection was made for Dorothy House in memory of the late Jeff Mountjoy, which raised £535.

Whites have overtaken Swindon Supermarine on goal difference heading into Boxing Day's derby with AFC Totton (2pm).
