DEPLETED Salisbury put their injury woes behind them as they picked up a 1-0 victory over Wimborne on Bank Holiday Monday to move up to fourth.

Justin Bennett scored the only goal of the game at Cuthbury which sealed a sixth successive win in Division One South and West.

It came five minutes before the break when Bennett seized on Stefan Penny’s undercooked back header for his 18th league goal. That arrived after he had hit the post and narrowly headed over.

After the break, the hosts had their chances to level in front of a packed 657 crowd.

Luke Holmes played Toby Holmes in on the right and his finish found the net, but was disallowed for offside.

A minute later good work on the left between Louis Kellaway and Toby ended with the ball pulled back to Luke who curled his shot inside the far post from 20 yards - but it was disallowed again for offside.

Late on, Luke Holmes surged into the penalty area and was upended but the referee dismissed protests before Kellaway was denied late on by Alex Bass.

Deep into stoppage time, under 18s' player Ben Moore made his first team debut, replacing Eddie Perrett who, due to numerous injuries, played in central midfield.

Moore becomes the second player, alongside Chae Sykes, to make his full first team appearance.

Whites now leapfrog Mangotsfield United, who dropped to fifth, thanks to their superior goal difference of 24.

Unbeaten in a month, Whites host North Leigh on Saturday (3pm), looking to avenge the defeat suffered in the reverse fixture.

FANS can quiz the board, including boss Steve Claridge, at a fans' forum on Thursday at the Ray Mac (7pm).
