YOUNG Salisbury defender Kieran Parselle is set to return to parent club Newport County.

The 20-year-old, who is a graduate from Newport's academy, will return to Wales at the end of the month.

He joined Whites in August on a six-month loan deal and has played an imperative role in the heart of defence, making 24 appearances.

His last game will be on Saturday, January 21 when Whites host Bridgwater Town in Southern League Division One South and West ahead of his return on the 27th.

Parselle continues to train in Newport during the week and has caught the eye of manager Graham Westley.

“I can’t wait to see Kieran back here, I really can’t,” said the Exiles boss.

“The first chance I get to bring him back here I’ll bring him back.

“I like the look of him in training and I want to see if he can be a part of what I’m doing.

“I honestly think he’d be in my team if he was here, based on what I’ve seen.”

“I might bring him back and use him in a game or two and think he needs to go on another loan,” he explained.

“And I might be able to get him a better loan than where he is now, a better standard and a different challenge.

“And that wouldn’t be any disrespect to where he is. I haven’t had any argument with Salisbury."

Parselle made seven appearances for County at the beginning of last season under Terry Butcher.

But he did not feature under John Sheridan or his successor Warren Feeney, who was the assistant manager of defunct club Salisbury City in 2013/14.

His absence adds to Steve Claridge's defensive woes.

Calum Brockway and Callum Hart are both sidelined through injury while other defender Steve Walker left the club last month. That leaves Claridge with just one centre-half in Elliot Wheeler.

However, Whites are boosted with news that Alex Bass' loan from Portsmouth has been extended until the end of the season.

Part of the deal is that the League Two outfit have a 24-hour recall on the goalkeeper.

Bass, who turned 20 on New Year's Day, is in a rich vein of form, keeping three clean sheets on the bounce.
