WELSH legend John Hartson has been unveiled as a guest speaker at Salisbury's latest sporting dinner.

The former striker will be sharing a wide range of stories with guests at the Ray Mac on Friday, March 3.

Hartson's career, which spanned more than 15 years, began at Luton Town in 1992 before joining Arsenal three years later for £2.5 million, which was then a British record transfer fee for a teenager. Later that year, he scored in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final against Real Zaragoza.

At his next port of call, he commanded another record fee, this time £3.2 million, the most West Ham had ever paid for a player, before having brief stints at Wimbledon and Coventry City.

In 2001, he moved to Scotland and made 146 appearances for Scottish Premier League side Celtic.

He ended his career at West Bromwich Albion in 2008.

A year after retiring, Hartson was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which spread to his lungs and brain, but has since made a remarkable recovery.

In addition to his professional clubs, he notched 51 caps for Wales over ten years.

Hartson, 41, now works for BBC as a pundit, appearing both on Match of the Day and Radio 5 Live, and has also set up the John Hartson Foundation, a testicular cancer awareness charity.

Tickets are priced at £40, which includes a three-course meal.

There will also an auction of sporting memorabilia and a raffle on the night.

Tables of 10 are also available at £400, which includes two bottles of wine for each group booking.
