A DRAMATIC finish saw Salisbury stage a jaw-dropping fightback in stoppage time to defeat Shortwood United 4-3 in the third round of the Southern League Challenge Cup.

The Whites looked down and out after trailing 3-0 to the visitors with just 53 minutes on the clock thanks to Nick Peare's goal and Tom Blackah's brace.

Kane O'Keefe pulled one back when he cantered through on goal and slid past Rhys Lovett on 64 minutes.

Salisbury piled on the pressure but were struggling to find an end product when returning winger Taurean Roberts, who has been at Tooting & Mitcham United this season, fired wide of the target.

Other chances came and went before Whites conjured three goals in a mouthwatering four-minute spell.

Tommy Wright made it 3-2 with a sweet left-footed strike in the 91st minute before O'Keefe levelled the scores with a low finish.

Then, substitute Claudio Herbert outpaced the defender on the right and was awarded a penalty.

Wright stepped up and lashed his spot kick into the roof of the net to send the Ray Mac crowd into raptures as a miraculous 4-3 victory was complete.

Talking about the winning moment in a game which was played for the fifth time lucky after four weather-related postponements at Meadow Bank, Wright told JournalSport: "I've never been in a game like that before and don't think I ever will again!

"Lots of teams would have given up towards the end but we had the belief that we could always bring it back."

"I was over the moon to score, the whole team had worked so hard to get in the position to be able to win with seconds left and I was more than happy to deal with the pressure and get us through to the next round."

Whites travel to Devon on Tuesday night where they take on Barnstaple Town in the quarter-finals (7.45pm).
