A DEVOTED Salisbury supporter with cerebral palsy is celebrating his 500th game against Hereford on Saturday (3pm).

Harry Newton, from Dinton, has been cheering on the Whites for the past nine years.

The 26-year-old’s first game was on October 25 2008 at Twerton Park, where Salisbury, managed by Nick Holmes at the time, were in FA Cup fourth qualifying round action against Team Bath.

Despite the Whites being knocked out after a 1-0 defeat, he says his passion for non-league football was born.

“A friend of mine at college was a supporter and persuaded me to come along. With half-term boredom, I thought I’d give it a punt, and I’ve never looked back.”

Newton, who was born with cerebral palsy, is quadriplegic and has spent his life in a wheelchair.

He relies on a team of assistants to help with taking him to matches, and has racked up 76,000 miles watching his side.

His stand-out game was when Salisbury were promoted to the Conference South after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Hednesford in 2011.

And he hopes they can earn promotion this season.

“I pray we can get promoted,” added Newton.

“Everyone needs to get down the Ray Mac and get it rocking.”

To mark Newton’s milestone, the club say they have something planned.
