WESTON-super-Mare were too good for the Salisbury FC as they came out 3-1 winners at very wet Ray Mac on Saturday, July 29.

The away side we the better team in the first half taking a three goal lead into the half, but Marvin Brooks scored in the 57th minute for his second goal for the club.

With less than two weeks before the beginning of the season the Whites struggled to get into the game and Weston took advantage of this and took the lead on 22 minutes, George Colson poor clearance fell straight to Gerrard Welch, who smashed the ball into the bottom corner.

The Whites looked to have equalised through Brooks, but his shot which the keeper fumbled looked to have crossed the line, by the linesman and referee disagreed.

Weston then stormed up the pitch and doubled their lead, Tristian Plummer, smashing the ball home from a tight angle, then Dayle Grubb made it three just minutes later.

Just minutes after the restart as the heavens opened up again the Seagulls could have made it four, but Ben Seymour’s chipped effort went just wide.

But it was the Whites who got the next goal, Lewis Benson swung a great cross in from the right which Brooks was able to get on the end of and head into the corner to give the Whites fans something to cheer about.

Neither side created any chances during the closing stages of the game, and the game finished 3-1 to the Somerset side.

The Whites next fixture is away against Gosport Borough on Wednesday, August 2, kick off 7.45pm, followed by Basingstoke Town on Saturday, August 5, which is the Whites final pre-season friendly, before they start their league campaign away, against Mangotsfield United, on Saturday, August 12
