SALISBURY FC have now moved up to second in the league after they beat Barnstaple Town 2-0, away from home.

Goals from Stuart Green and Zack Kotwica either side of the half was enough to earn the Whites the win in North Devon.

This is now the Whites third win in their last four league games, and edges them closer to closing the gap on league leaders Taunton Town.

Steve Claridge's side started the better of the two, and troubled Neal Osborn in the Barnstaple from the offset, with winger Danny Young almost connecting from a Lewis Benson cross.

The North Devon did eventually grow into the game and started to create chances of their own.

But it was the Whites who took the lead on 32 minutes, Benson's initial shot was well saved by Osborn, but he could only parry to Green, who pounced on the loose ball to slot home.

The second half started with the home side coming the closest and nearly got themselves back on level terms, but Jordan Charran chipped effort beat Charlie Searle in the Whites goal, but missed the target.

The Whites then doubled their lead on 52 minutes, on-loan striker Kotwica scored his first goal for Salisbury, Benson's cross found the striker who made no mistake and slotted the ball low into the net.

Salisbury then continued to press for more goals, but Barnstaple keeper Osborn kept the score at just two, saving from Young and Green. following the second goal.

The Whites are next in action in the league at home following two away fixtures against Larkhall Athletic on Saturday, and will be looking to close the five point gap on league leaders Taunton Town.
