SALISBURY wrecked Barnstaple Town's unbeaten record at home with a 4-1 hammering to consolidate fourth place in the league.

After being dumped out of the Southern League Challenge Cup in midweek at the hands of Hayes and Yeading, Whites bounced back with an emphatic display at Mill Road.

George Colson got the visitors up-and-running after just 10 minutes, diverting Lewis Benson's corner into the net.

Leading scorer Justin Bennett had his say when he twice found the net after the break to take the game out of Barum's reach.

His first goal – eight minutes into the second half – was taken well. Cutting inside Allan on the left channel, he shaped a curling shot into the top corner.

In less than 10 minutes, Bennett got his second and Salisbury’s third. The benefactor from Liam Gregory losing the ball in his own half, the striker manoeuvred away from James Mayne and Aaron Harper-Penman before firing past Steve Oliver.

A fourth goal arrived when Colson's flashing ball across the six yard box was inadvertently turned home by Barum defender Allan.

The home side pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining through substitute Niall Heeney, whose low shot steered past Bass.

It was Whites' seventh successive win in Division One South and West, and one which has opened up a two-point gap over Evesham and nine ahead of sixth-placed Mangotsfield.

Taunton Town dropped two points after being held to a 1-1 draw with Winchester City while second-placed Tiverton Town smashed North Leigh 4-1.

Elsewhere, champions-elect Hereford had their game abandoned at Didcot Town on 87 minutes due to a violent pitch invasion. Bulls were leading 2-1 at the time.
