HEAD coach Steve Claridge insists Salisbury must win their remaining six games to stand a chance of clinching second or third place in the league.

The Whites boss watched his side soundly beaten 4-0 on Saturday by Hereford, who lifted the Southern League Division One South and West title, as other results went their way.

It was a second consecutive league defeat for Salisbury and one which sees them slide to fifth place in the table.

However, if Whites win their game in hand at home to rock-bottom Bridgwater Town tomorrow night (7.45pm), they will move back in to fourth place and be one point off third-placed Tiverton Town.

"We need to win the next six, and if we can do that we'll finish either second or third, which will give us a chance of getting a home tie," Claridge told JournalSport.

"If we don't win all six we won't get where we need to go.

"We didn't lose ground on anyone on Saturday. Hereford have still got to go to Taunton and they will do it properly, we know that. They will see this through. "Tiverton have still got a couple of tough games to play and it's up to us now to go on the sort of run we did when we got beat by Evesham and Hereford, winning 16 of 17.

"There are some tough games ahead of us."

Claridge gave debuts to new signings Franklyn Clarke and Jesse Waller-Lassen on Saturday, both of whom played 90 minutes.

Waller-Lassen has joined on dual registration from Team Solent and Clarke left Southern Premier outfit Dorchester Town last week.

"I was really pleased with both of them," Claridge added.

"I thought Jesse was lively and you can see his quality.

"Franklyn needs to learn what we are going to require from him but he got about the pitch and made some tackles - which is everything we are looking for in a midfielder.

"Obviously, there are areas where, if we had the players available, would have given us more options. Not quite sure about the left hand side and what's required down there."
