JUSTIN Bennett says he’s looking forward to being fit again as Salisbury prepare to maximise points in the business end of the season.

The free-scoring striker has been nursing a hamstring injury for the past few weeks.

He picked up the strain on his left leg in Whites’ 3-1 victory over Winchester City on March 14.

That meant he missed out on the top-two clashes against Hereford and Tiverton Town, which Whites lost both.

But, following physiotherapy, the 34-year-old is hoping to return on Saturday when Salisbury host relegated Wantage Town in the Southern League Division One South and West (3pm).

It’s the first of Whites’ four remaining league games as they aim for second or third to gain the all-important home advantage in the semi-final of the play-offs.

“I should have been out longer with the tear I had but Matt Chappell and Charlie Blake at Evolved Health have worked wonders,” said Bennett.

“I hope to get some games under my belt so I’m back to full match fitness and sharpness for the play-offs.

“I think we can get second, all our games are winnable and Tiverton and Taunton have some tough games left.

“We just have to keep winning to keep the pressure on.”

Bennett’s missed games have gifted partner-in-crime Tommy Wright to leapfrog him in the race for the golden boot.

Wright has moved up to 31 league goals - three more than Bennett.

“It’s going to be tough to catch Tommy now, he is a very good finisher and I’ll have my work cut out to score more, but as long as the team are benefitting I don’t really care who is scoring,” he added.

“We are just opposite players, he is sharp and nimble and I’m a bit more of a target. We work well together.”
