SALISBURY CITY dumped Weston-super-Mare out of the FA Trophy with a convincing victory at the Ray Mac.

Chris McPhee started the comfortable win after tapping home Stuart Sinclair’s driven cross inside 22 minutes.

And two minutes later, McPhee was on hand to plant home Salisbury’s second of the afternoon, punishing Lloyd Irish for his woeful attempt to clear the danger.

Despite Chas Hemmings and Kane Ingram creating chances to get Weston-super-Mare back on track, which were both consequently squandered, they paid the price in the 65th minute.

A clever combination between two-goal hero McPhee and Elliott Frear teed up Dan Fitchett, who tapped home to complete the win and secure Salisbury's place in Monday's first round draw.

Both teams were sluggish and inconsistent in the opening proceedings, but that didn’t prevent Hemmings clipping the upright with a towering header and Ingram blasting a shot into the gloves of Mark Scott.

But Salisbury took a surprising lead, courtesy of McPhee meeting Sinclair’s cross at the far post. And the 29-year-old mastered a second two minutes later, capitalising on Irish’s howler.

Weston showed spirit and grit to keep the tie alive, but their plausible second-half display failed to keep the tie alive.

Instead, the Whites wrapped up the clash late on, as Fitchett produced a simple tap in from Frear’s cross, to start the long-road to Wembley.

City head to Kent on Saturday November 17 to take on Welling United (3pm).
