A DANNY Young-inspired Bemerton Heath Harlequins fought back from two goals down to progress in the FA Vase at AFC St Austell on Saturday.

The Cornish side went ahead through Mike Body after just three minutes, and Chris Reski got the second in the 34th minute.

Danny Young pulled one back after 56 minutes, and levelled the tie two minutes later. He then helped set up the winner with ten minutes to go, when his path to goal was blocked by goalkeeper Anton Lake, and Jack Slade picked up the pieces with a splendid lob.

They will make the relatively short journey to Horndean in the next round on Saturday, December 8.

“We looked dead and buried at half time,” said manager Ian Chalk.

“But I have great faith in the lads, they stuck together, and could have won by more.

“Horndean beat us in the league early on but their results haven't been great since, and it's a winnable game.”

Chalk rested some key players in Monday's Russell Cotes Cup tie at United Services Portsmouth, but the holders still ran out 4-1 winners, with two goals from Seb Dawes, and one apiece from Jack Eves and Slade.

They entertain Fawley in the league on Saturday. The reserves beat AFC Portchester 4-0 with two from James Smith, and goals by Tyler Brockway and Samuel Miller.
