DEFENDER Glenn Wilson revealed he “jumped” at the chance to sign for Salisbury City to boost their promotion chances and rejoin former teammate Chris Giles, writes Joel Holt.

The 26-year-old signed on a season long-loan from Conference Premier Gateshead two weeks ago.

He said: “I wasn’t playing much at Gateshead and just wanted some match time. “So I spoke to Chris, who I played with at Crawley, before I talked to the boss, to see if I could get some games.

"And when the opportunity arose, I jumped at it. “I’ve come here to win the league. Darrell Clarke and Mikey Harris have made it clear that’s what they want to achieve as well and whatever help I can give is a bonus. “We’ve got to win our remaining games and it’s in our hands now.”

The experienced defender has already played at a high level, including spells at Crystal Palace, AFC Wimbledon, Rushden & Diamonds, Kidderminster Harriers, Crawley Town, Fleetwood Town and Woking.

Making his debut at right-back during Saturday’s defeat at Dorchester, Wilson fitted straight in to the side.

He said: “I was very pleased to make my Salisbury debut. It’s been a little while since I last played, so I was a little bit rusty, but I’m just glad to be on board. I like to think I can play anywhere the boss wants me to. I’ll take each game as it comes and hopefully if the club win promotion they will keep me on.”

Clarke said: “Wilson is somebody I’ve had my eye on for a while. He’s a great character and he’s got plenty of experience.”
