Hendriksen wins pro-am in style
4:43pm Wednesday 14th August 2013 in Headlines
PAUL Hendriksen was planning a quiet day working in his office at Dinnaton Golf Club when he received an SOS call to see whether he could step in at the last minute to play in the Salisbury and South Wilts pro-am.
Brian Lee (Parc Golf Academy) withdrew with a back injury and Hendriksen, manager-pro at the Devon club, dashed to take his place.
His effort proved well worthwhile as he went home with the first place cheque for £786 after a four-underpar 67.
He dropped a shot at the second but replied with three successive birdies from the fifth. Another at ten, followed by his second bogey, and two more birdies at the 15th and 16th brought a one-stroke win over Paul Jones (Canford Magna).
Jones also bogeyed the second but added four birdies and 13 pars to a near-flawless round.
A heavyweight group of notable players challenged on two-over-par 68 to share third place. They were Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest), home player Andy Beal, Challenge Tour man James Ruth (St Mellion), Liam Bond (St Pierre) and former Ryder Cup player Paul Broadhurst.
Broadhurst also led the Salisbury Printing team to victory on 124, two better than the Parkstone team led by Martyn Thompson with Alistair Tresidder’s Sherborne trio two further shots behind in third.
