SARUM Youth Seniors opened up their Wiltshire League Division One season with an emphatic 5-0 win at home to Blunsdon on Saturday.
The team is made up of Wilton Town's players who are now starting to fulfil their potential. Paddington quickly latched onto the ball when the goalkeeper spilled it, making it 1-0, and he broke through the defence to finish tidily shortly afterwards.
Paddington completed his first-half hat trick with a volley from Archie Lovegrove's free kick, and Joe Rawkins controlled a Lovegrove pass before volleying into the top corner to make it 4-0 by half time. Rawkins' viciously dipping free kick completed the scoring.
“It was a great start for the boys and sets up what could be a big step forward this season as they mature,” said manager Dave Rawkins.
“Our young boys really looked like men out there now as they dominated every part of the game. Man of the match was Archie Lovegrove for his superb work ethic and having a hand in all of the goals.
“Many thanks to Whiteparish FC for allowing us to use their pitch for this game, Barry Underwood for running the line, and Dan Cousins for sorting so much out this week.”
In the Premier Division, Shrewton United lost their opener 5-2 at Southbrook, missing two penalties in the process. However, they then enjoyed a fine 5-0 win at Ludgershall Sports on Tuesday. It was goal-less at the break but they ran riot in the second half, with goals from Craig Lewis, Dominic Jackson, Jesse Walters and a brace by man of the match Dean Foot.
In Sydenhams Division One, Amesbury Town, Laverstock & Ford and Ringwood Town all return to action this Saturday. The Blues travel to Hayling United, 'Stock go to New Milton Town and the Brewers are at home to United Services Portsmouth.
