JAY Domoney was City of Salisbury’s star performer in the England Athletics under 17 track and field championships at Bedford.
Running in the 3,000m against the country’s top opposition, he showed great determination and lopped more than eight seconds off his previous best at the distance to clock 9min 46.3sec for 15th place overall in the final.
Also setting a personal best was Callum McTaggart in the 300m, who clocked 38.1sec but then narrowly missed a slot in the final.
Austen Lane fought hard for a place in the 200m semi-final with 22.85sec, then bowed out with 22.74sec.
After a strong season, Jake Ness was off his best when clocking 22.95sec in the 200m heats and he then took fourth place in the final of the 400m with 50.1sec.
On the road at the hot and hilly Dartmouth Regatta five-mile race, Sally Greenslade posted an excellent first place in her age group as well as shaving two seconds off the time she set last year, stopping the clock at 39min 26sec.
This Sunday sees the start of the new Hampshire Road Race League series with a five-mile race at Overton.
The Salisbury club achieved outstanding results at both individual and team level, men and women, in last year’s league contest.
The club’s leading road runners are in good shape going into the new 12-race season, intent on achieving even greater things for Salisbury between now and the final event at Portsmouth next June.
