Bemerton blitz past Verwood
BEMERTON Heath Harlequins moved up to second place in the Sydenhams Premier Division with a devastating second-half display at Verwood Town on Saturday.
After a goal-less first period, Ben Kelly’s own goal got the scoring under way 30 seconds after the restart.
It was soon 3-0, before Darren Munday pulled one back, but Heath ran out 5-1 winners for the second game in a row.
Their other scorers were Seb Dawes (two), Joe Sanger and Danny Young. Graham Mankin grabbed a hat-trick and Jack Eves and Kane O’Keefe also netted in the 5-1 home win over Christchurch last Tuesday, when Adam Jones and Russell Jones scored for the reserves in a 7-2 defeat at Dorchester Town.
Verwood have signed Michael Course, Mark Elsom, Jacob Hancock, Daniel Joyce and Michael Snow.
Downton were thrashed 7-0 on the Isle of Wight at Newport. It was 5-0 at half-time, with Tom McInnes getting four of them. Charlie Smeeton claimed the other, and John McKie and Matt Evans completed the rout after the break.
Danny Western started for the Robins having returned to the club, and former Bemerton player Kent Kauppinen has also joined Downton, making his debut in last Tuesday’s 4-1 league cup defeat at Alresford Town, when Aaron Dunne scored his first goal for the club. Former Amesbury Town player Daniel Magee has also signed, and made his debut off the bench at Alresford.
The Robins will host Laverstock & Ford in the Hospital Cup quarterfinals, while Bemerton are away to Amesbury. Shrewton go to holders Pewsey Vale, and Salisbury City travel to Andover. The ties are scheduled to be played before the end of November.
Bemerton beat Hamworthy United 2- 0 at home in the Sydenhams League Cup on Tuesday, with goals from Jack Slade and Young. They are away to Hayling United in the third round.
