Trafalgar School student secures racing seat
DOWNTON youngster Ollie Pidgley has had his sights firmly set on becoming a professional racing driver since first driving a kart more than half a decade ago.
Last week saw the 16-year-old take a step closer to that goal.
With two seasons of top level karting under his belt, Pidgley has managed to secure a seat in car racing for 2014, driving in the Renault Michelin Clio Cup under the guidance of current and treble British Championship winning team Pyro Motorsport.
Pidgley said: “I have watched these cars race my whole life, and to get the opportunity to compete in one next season is fantastic.
“The aim is to graduate through the series and into the British Touring Car series before I turn 20 if possible, because that is one of the most iconic series in the world.”
He will have support from the critically acclaimed I-Zone Ltd, a specialist driver training facility based at the home of motorsport in Silverstone, and be mentored by current Clio Cup UK champion and BTCC ace Jack Goff.
