Excellent away point for Rawkins' side
SARUM Youth Seniors picked up their first away point of the season with an excellent performance in Swindon against Intel.
They had to field a makeshift team due to injury and availability and were desperately unlucky not to pick up all three points. Archie Lovegrove struck a post as Sarum dominated the early exchanges, then Sam Revel headed against the bar from a corner.
Intel scrambled in a goal against the run of play from a free kick just before the break.
The home team managed to double the lead in the second half from another free kick, this time with a header.
Sarum got a penalty after 70 minutes when Dan Paddington was tripped, and Lovegrove converted. As they pushed hard for the equaliser, they were indebted to Chris Brown for two fantastic saves as Intel broke well.
Youth got their deserved leveller with five minutes to go as Paddington was brought down in the box for a second time and Lovegrove reliably slotted it in. They could have had all three points as Revel's long-range shot smashed off the bar.
Manager Dave Rawkins said: “It was an excellent performance from the boys, especially as we were short on players this week.
“We created enough chances to win comfortably but to go two down was a surprise. The lads fought back superbly and never gave up, and probably should have won it in the end as we looked much the stronger and younger side.”
