Halloween screen test for Harris' Salisbury
SALISBURY City boss Mikey Harris has played down his side’s tremendous home form as they take on Hereford United in a televised Halloween clash tonight.
The Whites face Hereford in the clubs’ first ever meeting at the Ray Mac, which is live on BT Sport 1 (7.45pm), and the only English football game being played.
The Bulls, managed by Salisbury-born Martin Foyle, who played football in the city as a youngster, travel to the Ray Mac currently in 19th position and have only one away win in Football Conference to their name, which came at Chester on the second day of the campaign.
But the Whites, on the other hand, have lost just one game almost 12 weeks ago at their Old Sarum fortress, and Harris tells the Journal he will be ignoring statistics tonight as his sole focus is running out victors.
“It’s obviously going to be a difficult game, especially as Hereford have the experience of boss Martin Foyle,” he said.
“They’ve got a really strong squad with a lot of their players returning from injury now. And their league position doesn’t reflect the strong team they have.”
“I know we’ve got a great home record but I don’t believe in statistics – every game is a one-off situation and we won’t be getting carried away.”
Salisbury make their BT Sport debut tonight but Harris is no stranger to the channel, which he has featured on as a pundit during Macclesfield’s 2-2 draw with Southport.
“It’s great to be involved in a televised fixture,” added Harris. “It’s brilliant for the club and shows how far we’ve come in such a short space of time.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to be a pundit for the show before and I can’t speak highly enough of them and the coverage they give to Football Conference.”
Salisbury players Callum Hart, Ryan Brett, Jamie White and Rob Sinclair, who’ve been out for a while, could be back in the squad tonight.
While Luke Ruddick is doubtful along with Miles Storey – whose loan spell expires today.
SALISBURY featured as part of the FA’s Road To Wembley series on Saturday.
