No double win for Salisbury RFC

Salisbury Journal: No double win for Salisbury RFC No double win for Salisbury RFC

DESPITE last week’s winning boost, injury-hit Salisbury RFC failed to record back-to-back victories on Saturday.

Their trip to mid-table outfit Devizes ended in a 57-20 hammering as Salisbury only travelled with a bare 15 players.

But to the visitors’ credit, they put in some brave performances against a large Devizes pack - once they found their feet.

Devizes started with more confidence and scored at regular intervals throughout the half, Salisbury’s only riposte coming from an Andy Herriott drop goal on the stroke of half-time to get the side underway.

After the break, the visitors looked a different team, taking the game to the hosts whenever they were in possession and tackling solidly in defence. After a period of pressure, Michael Roberts drove over for a score before Toby Moseley, enjoying his best game in a Salisbury shirt after stepping up from the 2nd XV, showed quick thinking at a penalty to crash over for a score converted by Herriott.

The hosts were rocking but Salisbury’s high risk attacking game inevitably left them open to interceptions and counter attacks and Devizes capitalised on a couple of occasions.

The last word went to the visitors with Drew White finishing off a good move under the posts.

SALISBURY COLTS continued their winning ways with a resounding victory over Swanage & Wareham at Castle Road.

After going behind to an early penalty, Salisbury never looked back with Captain Henry Toomer crossing for two tries, Ieuan Phillips adding a conversion.

The sides swapped penalties, Natt Armstrong scoring for the home side, before the floodgates opened and Salisbury extended their lead with a series of finely taken tries from Ben Smigelski, Tom Harris, Richard Cox, Jack Gurney and Phillips, who added three conversions.

SALISBURY under 14s were away to Devizes in their second Wiltshire Cup fixture on Sunday and won 12-59.
