CITY of Salisbury's young runners enjoyed their best outing of the Hampshire League cross country season at Popham near Basingstoke where Sam Coles, Maisie Grant and Jaymee Domoney all had outstanding races.

In unusually fast and dry conditions underfoot that belied the early winter, Tasha Mundell gave the club an encouraging start by finishing 38th among the under 13 girls, then in the same age boys' race a great effort from Sam Coles earned him 16th.

Maisie kept the momentum going when she took 13th and Ella Hards 42nd in the under 15 girls' race. Then in the best performance of the day, Jay worked his way through to a fine eighth spot in the under 15 boys' event.

At the under 17 level, Adam Bradburn improved to 42nd and in the senior ladies' race, Alex Mundell did well to record 13th place.

For the senior men, Stuart Holloway took a break from his road running campaign to go 28th, closely followed by Chris Southern in 37th and Steve Herring 44th.

Among the vets, trio Craig Murphy 217th, Martin Phillips 221st and Gary Domoney 224th maintained the club's presence with determined running.
