WHITES: Harris reinstates play-off aspirations

Salisbury Journal: Boss Mikey Harris Boss Mikey Harris

NOW City’s run in their boss’s favourite competition has ended and the FA Trophy is over for another season, Salisbury boss Mikey Harris has reiterated the importance of climbing back into the league play-offs.

Back-to-back defeats, ending Salisbury’s run in the FA Cup and FA Trophy, means it’s back to Skrill Premier basics, starting at Macclesfield Town today where completing their first league double of the season is on the agenda after beating Town 3-2 last month.

The 29-year-old told the Journal: “We’ve got to focus on the league now as the FA Trophy and cup have gone and that’s what happens in football.”

“One week you could be in everything and then suddenly you’re out of everything.

“The one thing we’re in is the league and in a good position with a game in hand.

“Our league form has been excellent this year, particularly at home. I feel with a little bit more extra quality, belief and confidence in the players, we can kick on and keep a positive run going.”

Harris’s side have suffered seven league defeats this season, with five coming on the road, and the boss is aiming to notch up his side’s first away win since September 21 at Nuneaton Town.

“I believe we’ve had a bit of a dip in the league but I don’t think performances have been far off,” he said.

“I’ve got a huge amount of belief in this squad and this group of players and I reckon we can push on now, which starts with a very difficult game at Town (3pm).”

Hoping to make his third consecutive start under Harris is leftback Callum Hart, pictured left, who has been sidelined because of a knee injury he picked up at Lincoln.

“It’s been a very frustrating season – from a personal point of view,” the Welshman said.

“Obviously, when I went down at Lincoln I thought I had done some serious damage but I was lucky to get over it.

“The team have been doing excellent since I’ve been out and I’ve been waiting for my chance.”
