CITY of Salisbury’s young sprint athletes took the Lee Valley indoor games by storm, the squad of 30 using the track’s speed to set a large helping of personal bests and put the seal on their 2013 season.

One of the day’s top performers was Dean Hodgson returning from a year out with injury. He set three bests in three runs: an 8.43sec in the 60m dash, trimming that to 8.38sec in the next heat, then clocked 27.42sec in the 200m.

Austen Lane was also outstanding, pulling a fine 7.38sec out of the bag despite suffering with illness.

Amy Jaramazovic won her 200m race with 27.54sec for an indoor pb, Katie George won both her 60m and 200m heats with 8.66sec then 8.58sec, followed by 29.26sec in the longer event, while Lizzie Clifford clocked 2min 25.09sec for the 800m.

Skye Allen was the club’s busiest athlete of the day, setting bests at 60m with 8.51sec and then 8.44sec, followed by 28.02sec in the 200m and 4.69m in the long jump.

Jake Ness ran his first ever 800m and went straight under the 2min barrier with a promising 1min 58.97sec, just pipping clubmate Tom Cummings whose pb 1min 59.79sec came at the end of a tussle in his race which saw him take a good first place.

Charlie Britten looked sharp in the 200m when he crossed the line in a fast 24.12sec, Trevor Cobs was almost as quick with 24.20sec, Jonathon Batchelor clocked a speedy 7.83sec and 7.79sec in the short sprint and then a good 25.25sec in the 200m; Jacob Collins was close with 8.14sec and 7.90sec followed by 26.05sec in the 200m, though he was later disqualified for a lane infringement.

On the road in the Poole winter series 5k, Simon Wiltshire again beat the 20-minute barrier with 19min 14sec, and his evergreen father clocked 30.25.

And at the seasonal 10k in Christchurch, Marilyn Hunt’s 58.57 effort was rewarded with a prize Christmas pudding!
