MIKEY Harris says his Salisbury City players are “itching” for Saturday’s clash with Kidderminster Harriers after enduring a two-week break from the game.

Waterlogged pitches, both in south Wiltshire and away from home, have led to three postponements which add to City’s list of upcoming Tuesday night games.

“The lads just want to play,” he said.

“It’s been a really frustrating period for us and we want to keep the momentum going from the wins we picked up before the bad weather.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to as the players are itching for a match.”

The midlands club, appointing ex-Coventry boss Andy Thorn to succeede Steve Burr as manager following his departure on Tuesday, are targeting the play-offs along with a place in the FA Cup fourth round after holding Peterborough to a 0-0 draw.

The cup distraction could work in City’s favour as 3pm approaches on Saturday.

“It’s always a tricky situation when a club loses their manager, you never know quite what to expect.

“Ultimately we need to focus on what we need to do on the day.

Kidderminster have a strong squad, and having already watched them this season we know what to expect.

“Sometimes being in the cup goes for you in the league and against you, which is what we’ve encountered in the past. It’ll certainly provide a good feeling at the ground.”

Harris is yet to make a move in the January transfer window, with the only movements being outwards of Ben Wright and Tyler Harvey.

He added: “I’ve a lot of confidence in my players and any changes I make will be minor ones.

“I don’t want to rush into anything and I’ll just see what happens.

“I spend my life on the phone talking to clubs about different players, so I’m keeping my options open.”

On the injury front, Rob Sinclair is fit and teammates Dan Fitchett and Elliott Frear are hoping to return in Worcestershire. Brian Dutton is making progress from his Achilles and Luke Ruddick has been to Germany to receive special treatment.
