WILTSHIRE’S under 12 girls’ reigning foil fencing champion fought her way to a silver medal in the southern region fencing foil competition.

Jemima Milford, 13, took part in the event at Fareham Leisure Centre against top athletes from across the south.

Emphatic victories from the St Edmund’s pupil, in all but one of her fights, meant she went on to win two more direct elimination fights (15-6, 15-8), to make it to the final, eventually conceding (8-13) to champion Heloise Hardie.

The silver medal win has ensured Jemima’s place at the British Youth Championships at Sheffield in May.

Jemima, in Year 9, trains weekly at Club Escrime, Winchester under coaches John Routledge and Allen Cooke.
