AN injury-time penalty left Bemerton Heath Harlequins kicking their heels at Western Way after being on the verge of a crucial victory.

AFC Bournemouth’s ex-rookie Matt Oldring ruined the potential post-match party as he converted from 12 yards after striker Jack Lovell was tripped up by keeper Max Frampton.

Danny Young put the seventh placed hosts ahead after the half-hour-mark but were left deflated at the full-time whistle.

A draw feeling more like defeat in the only Wessex clash to escape the wetness on Saturday.

But their mood didn’t wreck the Potters’ celebrations, leaving head coach Adie Arnold joyous.

“It came very late but the equaliser was thoroughly deserved on the back of a really good performance.

“In the first quarter of an hour we created three really good chances which we didn’t take and we let them back into the game.

“Fair play to Bemerton, they know exactly how to play at this level and have two very sharp, experienced strikers.

“They reacted to a second ball and got their goal.

“But as frustrating as it can be for a manager, the beauty of the fact we are quite naive is we also do not know when we are beaten.

The lads just keep plugging away and we got our rewards against one of the better sides in the division.

“Playing like that at somewhere like Bemerton sums up our season really and it is the inconsistency that does my head in. There is no in between with us, we’re either brilliant or shocking.

“In one way, it shows how far we have come and perhaps we (the management) expect too much, but I want to keep pushing.

“We could do with a couple of experienced players to push us forward and give us that knowhow to kill off games or win ugly, but they are so difficult to find without money.”

Town picked up another point in horrendous conditions at a 1- 1 draw with Romsey.

Saturday sees them host leaders Sholing at 3pm.

Elsewhere, Downton’s home clash with Moneyfields lost out to a waterlogged pitch as was Laverstock & Ford’s game with Pewsey Vale.

Amesbury Town’s match with Team Solent on Monday night got the all-clear but it wasn’t one to remember for the Blues.

Despite newcomer Eddie Perrett netting on his debut, they lost 4-1 to a side gearing for promotion.
