FIRST-choice keeper Will Puddy is puzzled as to why Salisbury City aren’t being spurred on by a sizeable crowd at Old Sarum.

The 26-year-old has played his part in forming a terrific home record – 11 out of 15 wins – by appearing in all but one of City’s games in Skrill Premier.

But the 6ft 1in keeper is bemused when it comes to low matchday gates.

“I have no idea why people aren’t coming to show their support to be honest,” he said.

“Over two years we’ve lost four league games at home but it’s something I cannot explain, at all.

“We’ve made it hard for any team to come here and get anything from the game. We were like it last year. We just need to make sure we take this home form away.

“It’s a big pitch, which may be a contributing factor to our many wins but it’s like anything in football, once you get that feeling at home, you just know you’re going to get something.

We seem particularly good at scoring goals in front of the faithful.”

Picking up points away are equally important to the Whites’ play-off bid, according to the number one keeper.

“The travelling is tough but is something we need to adjust to straight away and make sure we perform right at our next away game. We’re good at home, along with many other teams in this league.

“It’s always nice to help out when I can and points are the main thing this time of year.

We’ll continue to keep pushing to reach the play-offs.”

Boss Mikey Harris believes more fans coming to the Ray Mac will boost Salisbury’s play-off bid.

He said: “We're in a great position and have 18 games left this season and let's see what we can do.”

“We've got a capable squad here, hard working and a great team spirit. If we could just get the city to back us a little bit more, who knows, we might find ourselves in the play-offs for a second season running. It'll be a big ask as we are up against some big teams.”

“If the club wants to progress we won't be able to do that on crowds of 750 to 800. We need to bring it up to the 1,000 mark.”

Salisbury host third placed Alfreton Town today (3pm).
