A WEEKEND of joy and despair could be faced by Salisbury Hockey Club’s teams.
The ladies team will be in a celebratory mood when they break open the champagne at Bemerton on Saturday to celebrate their West Women’s League Premier Division 2A triumph.
Already certain of the title, they won 4-2 at Newent and now look forward being officially crowned champions after Hereford come to Wilton Road (1pm).
On the flip side, Salisbury men are facing relegation back to the Hampshire League.
They must beat basement club Haslemere at Bemerton (2.30pm) to keep alive their chances of staying in Hampshire/Surrey Regional Division 2.
- Rory McTaggart registered his second successive brace in a 4-3 defeat at Sunbury & Walton Heath.
- Salisbury Ladies’ fifths were denied a second win in a row after Joey Bonner’s late goal was disallowed after Henrietta Kenny had converted in a gritty 1-1 draw with Yeovil & Sherborne.
- Salisbury Striders smashed seven goals in their last two games to ensure runners- up spot in Wessex Masters Division One.
The 4-0 thumping of West Wilts followed by a 3-0 win at Winchester has secured second position regardless of their final league match result.
Full standings in next week’s Journal.
