TWO goals and a clean sheet confirmed Salisbury Ladies’ fourths as Channel Division 2 champions after seeing-off fellow title-associates Gillingham seconds at Lower Bemerton.

Goals either side of the break from Karen Stanton and Sarah Wrighton capped a long season and won the crown in front of a cheerful crowd.

Theresa Ellis, from the triumphant club, complimented the side for capturing the title.

“The team showed spirit and determination to work together, with everyone giving 100 per cent,” she said.

“Our resilience paid off with a 2-0 win, resulting in us earning the championship status we’ve worked so hard for all season.”

Salisbury have one game remaining on Sunday, April 12 at home to Swanage and Wareham, where they look to continue their unbeaten run.

Elsewhere, the thirds finished in joint fourth in Channel 1 of the West Hockey League after beating Bournemouth 2-1.

Captain Karen Hitchings said: “I would like to say thank you to my team for all their support and the fun we have had together this season.”
