SALISBURY City dispatched of Welling United in the space of six minutes as they coasted to a three nil thumping to end their home campaign joyfully.

Victory at struggling Chester on Saturday (5.30pm) would ensure Salisbury reach their highest ever points’ total in the Conference of 69, a point better than their 68 total in 2007/08 season, thanks to a brace from Jamie White and one from Chris McPhee.

The tough McPhee back-heeled Elliott Frear’s attempted shot to give City a 14th minute opener on Easter Monday.

White followed the scoring pattern by doubling their advantage two minutes later after tucking away Charlie Sheringham’s assist.

And suddenly it was three from White, who bagged his tenth league goal by making the most of Jack Obersteller’s howler, which pulled the plug on the Wings.

Soon after they were left pondering as to why they couldn’t dig out a consolation when Jake Gallagher toppled the woodwork from a glancing header and ex-Bristol City winger Toby Ajala cut in from the left but fired wide at the end of the first half.

Day blazed one goalwards in the second period and Ajala eventually got the ball in the back of the net but it was disallowed.

Salisbury took control in the closing stages and 19-year-old Sam Roberts made his debut – and looked tricky going forward.

“It was great to end our home campaign with a win, which was always our aim,” said manager Mikey Harris, after watching his side bounce back from double defeats.

“We’ve not been able to pick up that elusive 13th home win.

“It was a frantic six minutes where we showed some good attacking play and got ourselves ahead with three goals.”

“We could have increased our lead but will take a three nil victory and clean sheet all day long.” More from Harris in Thursday’s Journal.
