CHEERFUL Warren Feeney has returned to his native country to have a shot as manager of Linfield.
After ten months as Mikey Harris’ assistant coach at Salisbury City, the 33-year-old has returned to birthplace Belfast for the number one job.
The Blues, who play in the NIFL Premiership, announced Feeney as their manager on Saturday and he officially starts work today at the club he supports.
His father Warren senior is also a familiar face as he played there in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. He described his new role as an “absolute honour”.
“I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as manager of Linfield,” Feeney revealed.
“I have been a lifelong supporter of the club and it will be a huge honour and a privilege for me to manage this great club.”
Feeney, a much-loved character at Old Sarum, left his playing post at Plymouth Argyle to pursue management in the summer of 2013.
Harris says he will be sorely missed.
“Warren brings a great atmosphere and character to the place. He’s constantly lively and playing jokes. He’s been perfect for me. I’m into my detail and knowledge, making sure we don’t leave any stone unturned. He’s been the driving force behind the atmosphere in the changing room.
“He’s going to be a great loss and will be difficult to replace.”
