AMATEUR Kenneth Baker and Salisbury and South Wilts PGA professional Andy Beal, pictured, continue their bid for the Lombard Trophy grand final at Gleneagles.

The golfing pair are aiming to qualify for the National Pro-Am tournament in the famous Scottish resort, but have to fly through the regional final at Parkstone Golf Club first.

They will be among 70 other prospective hot shots on Thursday, July 10 trying to secure one of the 16 slots available in September’s high-profile event.

If Baker, a production supervisor from Salisbury who plays off a handicap of 18, and 48-year-old pro Beal qualify for the tournament, they are in with a chance of taking home a chunk of the £80,000 prize fund.

The tournament, now in its 30th year, attracts entries from more than 700 clubs across Great Britain and Ireland.

Last year's winners were PGA professional Ian Walley and amateur partner Ian Neal from Kedleston Park Golf Club in Derbyshire.

  • Tidworth Garrison’s professional Terry Gosden and amateur Alex Webber have also qualified to the regional final at Camberley Heath Golf Club on Tuesday, July 1. They will compete against up to 70 other clubs for the chance to secure one of 16 prized spots available for the 36-hole grand final.
