DOWNTON racing apprentice Ollie Pidgley chalked-up his first double points score of the 2014 season at Donington Park National Circuit in Leicestershire.

The 16-year-old, who also claimed the Sport Class victory in each encounter of Michelin Clio Cup Race Series, climbed two positions in the standings to move up to ninth.

“I’m pretty happy with the way the weekend has gone overall,” the Team Pyro driver remarked.

“I’d never been to Donington in the dry before this weekend, but we still managed to have the fastest lap at one point in race two.

“I think we could have had a couple of top sixes at least really, but we still managed to score in both races and keep making progress, which is the main thing.”

There is now a lengthy eight-week break ahead of the series’ seven and eight rounds, which will take place over the July 26 and 27 at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent.

He added: “I would have liked to have finished higher up this weekend but we’re making improvements and the pace is definitely there.

I’m looking forward to going back to Brands now next month.”
