Medal glory for Jessup
CHRIS Jessup, who swims in the 65-69 age group for Salisbury Stingrays, won a silver medal in the 200m butterfly at the British Gas Masters Long Course Championships.
He had four events the following day, picking up two bronze medals in the 200m breaststroke and the 100m butterfly.
Jessup, pictured inset, also claimed two fifth places in 50m breaststroke and the 400m freestyle.
On the final day of the championships he won a third bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke, with another fifth place finish, this time in the 50m butterfly.
In the South West Regional Championships in Plymouth recently, Salisbury’s swimmers also produced some pleasing results, coming up against some incredibly tough opponents such as Plymouth Leander, who boast several international swimmers among their ranks, including Lithuanian Olympic gold medallist Ruta Meilutyte.
Standout performer for the Stingrays was Luke Demetri who reached three championship finals where he was placed fourth in the 200m breaststroke, third in the 100m breaststroke and second in the 50m breaststroke.
Also competing at the event were James Stocks-Reid, Rob Langan, Phoebe Wing, Matilda Bryant, James Chapman and Virginia Baker.
A young Salisbury Stingrays squad recently competed at the Trowbridge Level 3 Open Meet. Several of the boys shone as they picked up multiple medals each, with Nathan Burn, Alexander Doran and David Morton performing brilliantly.
For the girls, Lily Battersby and Alice Butcher took home an array of medals. Other medal winners were: Emily Morton, Daisy Ullyatt, Oni Taiwo, India Rogers, Thomas Doran, Abigail Burn, Lauren East, Hazel Cutler, Ellie Chalk and Katy Cutler. Other competing swimmers were: Donya Saneie, Nina Dyson, Leah Dear, Amelia Keen, Zoe Shadlock and Maddie Coupe.
Salisbury Stingrays were also in team action at Fiver Rivers Leisure Centre this past weekend, finishing third behind Bradford on Avon and winners Trowbridge, cementing their place in the division.
