A COMMUNITY bowls club in Salisbury is celebrating after being awarded a grant for essential refurbishments.

Five Rivers Indoor Bowls Club, who play in Tollgate Road, have received in the region of £28,000 from Sport England to spend on improving the bowling green and other facilities.

“It means a great deal to our club,” said secretary Mary Buckle.

“The club needed a refurbishment and the grant has really helped us.”

As well as making alterations to the club, they are encouraging young members to join by holding a come and try session.

The open evening is aimed at eight to 18-year-olds on Friday, July 25 at 6pm.

Further open days have been arranged in coming months and MP John Glen will be visiting the modernised club on Friday, September 19.
