GLAMOROUS women were entertained by a high calibre of racing at Salisbury’s most popular meeting of the year.

A crowd of more than 6,500 Ladies’ Evening guests watched an array of favourites nab the headlines, with the biggest outsiders winning at a low 5/1.

One of those was Robert Eddery’s Feeling Easy in the six-furlong opener on Saturday.

Amid the four running, the two-year-old foal held off the challenge from Richard Hannon’s well-backed Be Bold, the 6/5 favourite.

The other minor shock descended onto the Netherhampton track in the penultimate race as Jimmy Fortune eased Pink Diamond home ahead of second-placed Eugenic.

Fortune, a regular rider at Salisbury, came within touching distance of making it a double consecutive win when on Rosehill Artist. The 6/1 shot dipped out on a prominent victory as Almashooqa finished second and unfazed Tearless, 9/4 favourite, never looked in trouble in the onemile, one-furlong feature race.

Charlie Appleby’s followed the familiar hot-shot pattern of similar small priced Vallarta, Hiking and Jelly Fish winning their categories.

And there was no doubt from Hannon’s Misterioso in the Stallion Studs Maiden Stakes.

Clerk of the course and executive director Jeremy Martin said: “Ladies’ Evening was once again very popular and is now firmly fixed as our top event at the racecourse.”

“Thankfully, we only received two or three brief showers during the whole evening, when places not too far away were getting a real drenching. Otherwise it was overcast but still nice and warm.

“Pink Diamond seemed a popular winner with the ladies, as there was a great cheer when she won. There were a couple of very decent looking winners too, in Misterioso and Tearless.”
