ZIMBABWEAN all-rounder Ryan Burl hasn't ruled himself out of a dramatic return for South Wilts in Sunday's Southern Electric twenty20 Cup semi-final tie at Sarisbury Athletic, 3pm.

The 20-year-old 'over-age' Zimbabwe Under 19 World Cup star, played a key role in South Wilts' league and cup double success last season, dislocated his left shoulder in a fielding accident against the Hampshire Academy at the Ageas Bowl in May.

At the time, Burl was told his season was over and he would play no more cricket - or squash, his other favourite sport - until the autumn.

His physiotherapy treatment has gone so well Burl believes he is on the verge of a far earlier than anticipated return to the sporting arena.

“I've played about eight overs cricket this season and I'm desperate to not only play again, but help South Wilts win more trophies,” he said.

“I'm not going to do anything stupid and plan to take advice, but I'm not far away and I'd love to play in Sunday's semi-final.”

South Wilts, who thrashed Burridge in last season's final, face a banana skin of a semi-final trip to Sarisbury, who are in their third successive semi, having yet to make it to an Ageas Bowl final.

“I've never played there or against them, but I hear Sarisbury are a formidable side, especially on their own ground, so it's going to be tricky in the extreme,” Burl continued.

Fellow Zimbabwean Under 19 international Kieran Geyle plays for Sarisbury - and the pair are itching to lock horns for the first time since their schooldays in Harare.

Lymington host Havant in the other semi-final.

The Electric t20 final is under the Ageas Bowl floodlights on Friday August 15.
