BISHOP Wordsworth’s Matthew Penny showed his talent with the rod after catching a second place finish.
The 15-year-old from Charlton-All-Saints claimed second at the UK open Salmon Distance Fly casting competition in Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire.
“Matthew has a real passion for fly fishing and is becoming quite an expert.
“I’ve taught him everything he knows and now he out fishes me,” said father Jon, who came third in the men’s event.
Matthew has been fly fishing for three years but has only been using double handed salmon rod for three years.
He is also part of Wildthing Flyfishing which is run by Jon, who teaches fly fishing and arranges fishing trips.
