SOUTH Wilts seconds have missed out on a potential Southern Electric Premier League Division 3 promotion ticket as they went down by six wickets to title-contenders Bashley (Rydal) II.
The Bemerton boys posted a healthy 246- 7, but Bashley chased the target down to win with four balls to spare. South Wilts were 33- 2, but advanced to 122 on the back of an 89- run stand between Luke Hansford (77) and Tom Pearce (38).
Rob Pittman hit 47 and Steve Booth 29 not out as South Wilts got near 250.
But South Wilts were unable to quell the run scoring exploits of Chris Vaughan, who hit an unbeaten 93 as Bashley got home in the final over.
The left-hander shared a key stand with Neil Thurgood (65) and then Simon Watkins (33), before Simon Ridley (23) applied the finishing touch.
South Wilts, with Basingstoke & North Hants and Waterlooville to play, look to finish third.
