DOWNTON FC exited the FA Cup in the extra preliminary round against Wessex Premier boys Folland Sports.

Man of the match Paul Gulliver, pictured, restored some belief in the Robins with a fantastic individual goal after going 2-0 down at the break, but a further three goals condemned Downton to a 5-1 defeat.

“Some very valuable lessons have been learnt from this game,” admitted Robins boss Colin Hopkins.

“Folland Sports are an excellent side and I doubt if we will play a better team than them this season.

However, for Downton there were more positives than negatives to take from the match despite the scoreline, and anybody who actually watched would, I’m sure, agree with me that although Folland Sports deserved to win.

Three-one to them would have been a much fairer reflection of the game.”

Downton host Ringwood Town in Wessex Division One on Saturday (3pm).
