WINTERBOURNE Stoke's Louisa Lockwood claimed her best four-star result for 14 years at Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

Not since Badminton in 2000 and her 12th place finish with Fair Impression had Lockwood been anywhere near the top 30 at a four-star event.

But a superb cross country performance on Captain Mark Phillips' challenging course on Saturday pulled her and Ballyfarris Flight right up the leaderboard heading into Sunday's showjumping finale.

On a tough course, and despite picking up time penalties, Lockwood's clear round moved her up from 52nd after the dressage to 18th.

And she improved by another five places in the showjumping with another clear round.

“It's very nice to finish on a clear, he's a good jumper but you never know how they are going to come out so I'm really pleased with him,” she said.

“He's just been a star all week; he's just tried his heart out in all three phases so I couldn't be more pleased with him.

“This is my best result at a four-star level for a very long time. You think when you've done it at a young age you would just keep doing it. But it takes a very long time to get back here again.

“He's definitely the best horse I've ever had. There's still work to do on the dressage but the potential is there.”
