NETBUSTER Danny Finnigan pushed his goal tally mark to 11 goals in nine appearances as Amesbury Town exposed Chippenham with ease.
Chris Wheeler and a spot kick from Eddie Perrett handed Amesbury a 4-1 victory in the first round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup and will face Shrewton United next month in the next round.
Gareth Horner’s side, which have currently scored the second highest amount of goals with 24 in Wessex Division One, was pleased with how the tie panned out.
“It was a game on paper that we should have one but we all know that that can never be taken for granted.
“Chippenham are riding high in the Wiltshire League so it was important the lads performed,” he said.
“In truth, there was a lot more in the tank and it was more of getting the job done than being exceptional. I always thought we had something more to give and when we passed the ball with purpose we were unplayable.
“It's been a nice break from league action but now the pressure is back on us to maintain that good start before we can look forward to two more cracking cup ties.”
- Amesbury are in derby action on Saturday against Ringwood Town at Bonnymead Park (3pm).
